Navigating "Normal" is an online community and resource hub for moms raising kids with learning differences and hidden disabilities—where your concerns are believed and you don’t have to figure it out (or carry it) alone.

Real Support for Real Struggles

If you’ve ever felt like you’re the only one who sees what your child is really struggling with…

If you’ve questioned your instincts because others say, “They seem fine to me”…

If you’re exhausted from trying to advocate while still holding everything else together…

Here, you don’t have to fight to be believed.

you're in the right place

You want to feel confident again—confident in your instincts, your decisions, and the way you’re supporting your child. You’re looking for tools that actually help, not generic advice that doesn’t fit your family’s reality. And maybe more than anything, you want to know there are other moms who truly understand what this road looks like behind closed doors. Friend, you are not alone. That’s exactly why Navigating “Normal” exists.

"You want to know there are other moms who truly understand what this road looks like behind closed doors."

And right now, you might be carrying a lot:
advocating for support while feeling dismissed
searching for answers that actually fit your child
second-guessing yourself after difficult days
wondering if you’re doing enough—or too much

You’re a mom who loves deeply and notices the details others overlook. You see the signs—the overwhelm, the shutdowns, the quiet struggles that don’t show up in obvious ways.

Parents need more than information. They need understanding, encouragement, and a community that believes them.

As an educator, I spent years working with students whose needs didn’t always fit neatly into the boxes the system expected. I saw how powerful the right accommodations and support could be—but I also saw how often those needs were misunderstood or overlooked.

At the same time, my own journey as a mom of neurodiverse littles opened my eyes even further.

When your child’s challenges are invisible, advocacy can feel like an uphill battle. You begin to realize that sometimes the hardest part isn’t the disability itself—it’s the isolation, the doubt, and the constant need to explain what others can’t see. And over time, one thing became clear:

Navigating “Normal” was born out of both professional experience and deeply personal understanding.

Why we exist

Founder Misty Nissen, M.A., M.Ed.

Through my work in traditional education and in the therapeutic and educational consulting space,  I’ve spent years helping students access the support they need to succeed.

That experience has given me a deep understanding of:
• how learning differences and hidden disabilities show up in real life
• how systems and schools approach accommodations
• how parents can advocate effectively and confidently
• how small shifts in support can change a child’s entire trajectory

But the heart of this work isn’t just professional knowledge.

It’s the belief that every child deserves to be understood—and every parent deserves support while they advocate for them.

ready to jump in?

We believe that hidden disabilities deserve to be seen and supported.

We believe moms shouldn’t have to carry the weight of advocacy alone.

And we believe community changes everything.

When moms have the right tools, encouragement, and people walking beside them, something powerful happens:

Confusion turns into clarity.
Isolation turns into connection.
Self-doubt turns into confident advocacy.

That’s the transformation we care about most. Because invisible struggles should NEVER mean invisible support.

So in a Nutshell...

If you’re here, chances are you’ve already been carrying more than most people realize. You’ve spent hours researching, advocating, praying, and doing your best to understand and support your child. Even if you don’t have every answer yet, you deserve a place where you feel supported, equipped, and truly understood. That’s what Navigating “Normal” is here to offer—a space where you can learn, grow, and find the community you’ve been needing all along. Because invisible struggles should never mean invisible support.
